The 2nd National Symposium on “Real Estate Management & Valuation”

The 2nd National Symposium on “Real Estate Management & Valuation”, which was organized by the Research and Professional Development Center (EMV-RPDC) of Department of Estate Management and Valuation: Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce was successfully held on 15th December 2016 at Seminar Hall, Faculty of Graduate Studies – University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge graced the Symposium as the chief guest while Dr. U. Anura Kumara, Dean of Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce participated as the guest of honor of the symposium. Senior Professor Shantha K. Hennayake, University of Peradeniya delivered the keynote speech of the symposium on the theme of A Critical Look at the “Real Estate” in the Modern State. This symposium was chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) N.C. Wickramaarachchi.

Several academics, researchers, practitioners, professionals representing public private organizations and professional bodies including Government Valuation Department, Urban Development Authority, Institute of Valuers Sri Lanka, Institute of Surveying and Mapping, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Institute of Town Planers Sri Lanka, Peoples Bank, State Mortgage and Investment Bank, Lanka Property Web, Sunil Fernando & Associates (Pvt) Ltd., Prathap Chartered Valuation & Consultancy (Pvt) Ltd., participated for the Symposium.

Twenty (20) research and concept papers were presented and published in the symposium proceeding book. Also an invited eminent panel of industrial representatives made an effective discussion on “the importance of real estate management and valuation in disaster management.” This symposium identified timely important areas to be researched such as developing effective methods for property valuation in disaster situation, need of property price indexes etc.
