The Field visit of the mega Group 2 for Ranaviru Apparels, Yakkala as per the requirement for the course module Managing Productivity and Quality, was successfully concluded on the 28th of September 2015 with the attendance of 44 students along with 2 lecturers of the department, Mr.Pradeep Kumara and Miss.Nikeshala.

The Ranaviru Apparels engages mainly in manufacturing of the uniforms to the Sri Lankan army and it satisfies approximately 60% of the total demand for uniforms. Apart from that it produces track outfits to Si Lankan Army and ensuring the profit maximization which is the primary objective of the organization it produce garments for brand “Comrade”.

The organization has initially started as a rehabilitation programme and developed to the current status subsequently which currently operate as a profit oriented entity. The majority of the employees are differently abled soldier and the management is carried out by a board of directors consist of higher level officers of the Sri Lankan Army.

The Yakkala Factory leads by Col. L. wijesundara who acts as the Centre Commandant and our facilitator of the programme was Major Thusitha Kumara Asst. Human Resource Manager of the factory. We were allowed to gain a comprehensive idea regarding the Japanese 5S concept and Kaizen and there application in real manufacturing environment.
