“WAYAWASAYAKA UDANAYA” 2016

Department of Entrepreneurship conducts a specially developed series of workshop to develop entrepreneurial skills among undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Leading entrepreneurs, academics and experienced managers of Sri Lankan business organizations conduct the workshops on business management, entrepreneurship, career development etc. to improve knowledge, sharpen up skills and to internalize positive attitudes among the undergraduates.
Since NEDA conducts special program to identify potential entrepreneurs in order to facilitate to start new ventures, in this year onwards NEDA has joined with this special project with their “WAYAWASAYAKA UDANAYA” program. NEDA will actively involve in designing course contents, coordinating and arranging resource persons, arranging field visits, allocating funds for conducting workshops, allocating funds for selected undergraduates to start their own ventures, organizing awarding ceremony etc.
Promotional activities, selections of students, registration activities, organizing of lectures, conducting lectures, organizing field visits, organizing the inauguration and awarding ceremony will be done by the Department of Entrepreneurship together with the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
There are six phases of the proposed WAYAWASAYAKA UDANAYA 2016 program.
Phase 01- Common workshop series
Phase 02- Business Development workshop series
Phase 03- Management Training workshop series
Phase 04- Business Screening
Phase 05- Awarding
Phase 06- Follow up
225 students from all the faculties of the university will be enrolled for the first phase of the program. Participants will be divided in to two groups after the common workshop series.
Group 1: Undergraduates who are willing to start their own venture.
Group 2: Undergraduates who are willing to do a job.
Special and customized awareness programs, technical assistance, business visits, discussions etc. will be arranged in order to prepare them for startups and to find investors. Others, who wish to do a job, will be trained separately as corporate entrepreneurs.
Further, a special awarding ceremony “Entrepreneurs’ Night” will be organized at the end of workshop series to share the experience, to appreciate special achievers and to develop relationships among the business development support service providers (BDSSPs) and leading entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka.
Main objectives of the program
1. To introduce the concepts related with entrepreneurship & best practices of management.
2. To stimulate undergraduates to start their own ventures.
3. To guide undergraduates in planning their personal and career lives.
4.To ensure right jobs for best achievers through enrolling them into the Job Bank and Business Club of the Department of Entrepreneurship.
