Vinu Wijemanna becomes South Asian Champion at Global Educational Trust Awards

Vinu Wijemanna, a final year student of the Faculty of Management Studies and CommerceUniversity of Sri Jayewardenepura became the Regional Champion for the South Asia Region at the Global Education Trust Awards-2018, organized by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) for the second consecutive year.

He was able to receive the national title after competing against twenty-two high performers from eight local Universities. Vinu Wijemanna after being shortlisted under the top six candidates worthy of the national title was able to gain the national title after a final presentation on: “What is the difference if it exists, between investing and gambling? Which category does derivative trading and spread betting fall into?”

Upon competing against the Indian National winner, Vinu has earned himself an all-expense paid work placement opportunity at a leading financial services institution in the world’s top financial center, London. He will gain experience among the most competitive business environment and will be exposed to London’s “international” culture, getting a flavor of living and working in one of the most culturally, socially, and professionally diverse cities in the world.

Six other regional winners from APAC, Africa, Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and Europe will join Vinu in London. Each candidate will be placed in a different financial institution in line with their area of study to enhance their competitive edge in the real world, boost their resume and help them progress in their career.

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) carried out its Global Education Trust Awards to help young people build on opportunity, recognition, connections, and employability within the financial services sector. The Educational Trust is an education charity established and funded by the CISI, which uses its funds solely to support educational initiatives in the public interest.
