Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) are playing a significant role in the economic development process of a country. They are prevailing in different sectors and industries of the economy. However, such businesses encounter many difficulties related to different areas like finance, technology, markets, etc. Specially, SMEs find it difficult to identify and target right markets as well as to develop right marketing strategies.
Therefore, with the objective of recognizing promising small scale entrepreneurs in the country, and contributing to their success through knowledge of the university communities, Department of Marketing Management of University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized Innovegic Expo 2018, on 26th February 2018 at University of Sri Jayewardenepura, in collaboration with Ministry of Primary Industries. Innovegic Expo 2018 was an exhibition of small and medium scale enterprises of the country, where they were given the opportunity to showcase their businesses, products, and services to university communities and other participants. Also, this exhibition was linked to the subject Marketing Management, offered by the Department of Marketing Management, for second year undergraduates of Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. There, undergraduates were given an opportunity to experience and apply what they learnt in the classroom.
More than fifty (50) entrepreneurs participated for the exhibition representing different sectors such as agriculture, herbal, food and beverages, clothing, footwear, handcrafts, gifts, and IT. Also, the Agriculture Sector Modernization Project of the Ministry of Primary Industries held a stall at Innovegic Expo 2018 to conduct business incubation facility at the exhibition. There, a team from the Ministry of Primary Industries provided advices and proper guidance for innovative entrepreneurs and young energetic undergraduates who were interested in joining the business world. Further, Innovegic Expo 2018 paved a new way for a new collaboration between Department of Marketing Management of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Ministry of Primary Industries to work together for the development of the country.

Bandula Wickramaarachchi, Secretary, Ministry of Primary Industries; Dr. Anura Kumara, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Dr. Lalith Chandralal, Head, Department of Marketing Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura graced the inauguration of Innovegic Expo 2018 with their presence.
