DCBA 1301: FINANCIAL MODELING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Financial Modeling introduces fundamental computer applications and spreadsheet tools designed specifically for accounting and financial analysis. This course blends theoretical foundations with hands-on practice, focusing on practical spreadsheet solutions using Microsoft Excel (or equivalent packages). Students will learn data entry, editing, logical formatting, financial functions, visual data presentation, dashboard preparation, and data protection techniques essential for modern accounting environments<\/p>\n

DCBA 1302:<\/strong> DIGITAL ACCOUNTING<\/strong><\/p>\n

This course provides comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in the application of Sage accounting software<\/strong> in business data processing. Designed for 4-hour lab-intensive sessions, students will gain hands-on expertise setting up company profiles, managing the General Ledger, handling Suppliers (Creditors) and Customers (Debtors), controlling Inventory modules, and performing Budget Analysis. Note: Payroll processing is excluded from this course scope.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0DCBA 1303 – APPLIED DATABASE SYSTEMS FOR ACCOUNTING <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/i>Applied Database Systems for Accounting \u00a0Data to Decisions: Intelligent Transformation in Life Sciences and Management equips students with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to model, design, and manage relational databases in modern accounting environments. Moving beyond the limitations of basic spreadsheets for multi-user transactions, this course guides learners through data modeling, Entity-Relationship (ER) diagramming, normalization, and relational table construction using Microsoft Access and SQL. Through hands-on exercises, students learn to write SQL queries to filter and summarize financial data, design user-friendly data entry forms, build multi-level accounting reports, and integrate database records with tools like Excel and Power BI for effective business decision-making.<\/p>\n

DCBA 1304: AI TOOLS FOR DIGITAL PRESENTATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

AI Tools for Digital Presentations introduces students to modern multimedia and AI-powered tools for creating effective and engaging accounting presentations. Students will learn to create AI-generated images related to accounting activities, concepts, and business scenarios<\/strong>, as well as produce AI-generated videos using a range of video creation tools<\/strong>. The course focuses on applying these technologies to enhance accounting presentations, reports, educational content, and professional communication<\/p>\n

DCBA 2301: INTEGRATED COMPUTER APPLICATION FOR ACCOUNTING<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is an advanced level course consisting of both theory and practice relating to computer applications in accounting using excel spreadsheet package. This course introduces the students accounting modelling using advanced tools and techniques available in excel spreadsheet to develop models for accounting and finance purposes. This course expects to cover macros, lookup functions, solver analysis and other advanced techniques, computational issues in financial problems, optimization in computational finance such as single and multi-period mean-variance portfolio management, numerical techniques for valuation, pricing and hedging of financial investment instruments such as options.<\/p>\n

DCBA 2402: ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING <\/strong><\/p>\n

This course introduces the students to interdependent software modules with a common central database that support basic internal business processes for finance and accounting, human resources, manufacturing and production, and sales and marketing. Enabled data to be used by multiple functions and business processes for precise organizational coordination and control. The course is expected to cover Accounting, Stock Control, Assets Register, Payroll, HRM, Time Attendance and Point of Sales. This course emphasizes on Accounting module for students and some linkage for another modules.<\/p>\n

DCBA 2403 \u2013 ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The aim of this course is to introduce core coding concepts through hands-on practice. Students will gain practical skills in creating easy-to-use Windows applications that collect, process, and display everyday business data.<\/p>\n

DCBA 2304:\u00a0 INTEGRATED WEB APPLICATIONS FOR ACCOUNTING\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

This course introduces the students to Web Technologies which will help them to publish accounting information to the Web. In this regard the course will introduce the students to Web Authoring (HTML), Web Templates handling using CSS, Client side web page interactivity handling using JavaScript, Instructional Design Methodology for e-commerce and Uploading Financial Statements to the web, Processing of Web Video Clips using Adobe Premiere Pro, Writing JAVA Applets for Multimedia Web creation, Future of Web Application, Web Accessibility Techniques, Macromedia Dreamweaver for quick Web Authoring. Sinhala and Tamil Unicode Fonts for Sinhala and Tamil Web Sites<\/p>\n

DCBA 2405 Mini Accounting Software Development Project <\/strong><\/p>\n

This course provides an opportunity for students to apply their Conceptual knowledge into practice. Each student is required to select an application project from a private or public sector organization. Each student has to develop a comprehensive application package or submit a project report based on the type of application project they select. The application package or project report should meet the expectations of the relevant organization. Each student will be assigned a supervisor from the department. Maximum duration of the project is three months.<\/p>\n
