Looking back, I realise that the University was not merely a place where I pursued a degree. It was an environment that challenged me to discover my potential and grow into the person I am today.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Beginning My University Journey<\/h3>\n\n      <p>\n        We entered the University towards the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, with our first semester conducted entirely online. Despite the physical distance, university societies and clubs provided opportunities to connect with fellow undergraduates and become part of the university community. When we eventually transitioned to physical lectures and campus life, these connections grew even stronger. My first year became a period of discovery, filled with opportunities to explore interests beyond the classroom.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        My involvement in extracurricular activities began when I joined the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. During my first year, I was entrusted with the position of Director of the International Services Avenue, an opportunity that carried significant responsibility for a new undergraduate. This experience pushed me beyond my comfort zone and taught me that leadership requires humility, patience, and a willingness to learn from others.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Finding My Place in Business Economics<\/h3>\n\n      <p>\n        In my second year, we were required to select our respective departments. Having developed a strong interest in economics during my Advanced Level studies, the Department of Business Economics was my first choice. Being selected for the Department opened the door to opportunities that would shape some of the most memorable and defining experiences of my university life.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        One of the most significant of these experiences was serving as the Secretary of the Business Economics Students\u2019 Association, BIZCON, the official student body of the Department of Business Economics. Working closely with the President and the Executive Committee, I was involved in organising and coordinating several initiatives, including EconInsight, Ikonomica, and J\u2019pura Expo. These projects brought together students, academics, and external stakeholders while providing opportunities to contribute to the wider community.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Developing My Passion for Announcing<\/h3>\n\n      <p>\n        While community service allowed me to explore one aspect of myself, university life also gave me the opportunity to pursue a passion I had nurtured for many years: announcing. This led me to join J\u2019pura Voice, the official media and broadcasting unit of the University. Although I initially joined to develop my announcing skills, my involvement gradually expanded through projects such as Allusion and V-Speak, where I contributed to organising and executing large-scale initiatives.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        In 2024, I was appointed Assistant Divisional Head of the English Announcing Division. Being entrusted with the responsibility of leading a division centred around a passion I had cultivated for years was both rewarding and fulfilling. The following year, I was appointed to the Executive Committee of J\u2019pura Voice, where I contributed to the organisation\u2019s direction while overseeing the activities of the Announcing Division and J\u2019pura News.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Balancing Responsibilities and Achievements<\/h3>\n\n      <p>\n        Balancing lectures and extracurricular activities was not always easy. However, taking on these challenges allowed me to push myself beyond my perceived limitations and develop the discipline, resilience, and time-management skills required to fulfil multiple responsibilities.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        The culmination of these efforts came in 2026, when I was awarded Second Runner-up in the Best Employability Skills Achiever, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce category, at the J\u2019pura Employability Skills Awards 2025. This recognition was particularly meaningful because it acknowledged a broader university experience shaped not only by academic performance but also by leadership, teamwork, communication, and community service.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        Graduating with First Class Honours in the B.Sc. Honours in Business Administration (Business Economics) degree programme, with a GPA of 3.98, was a milestone that made this journey even more special. Receiving the NIBM Gold Medal for the best academic performance in the degree programme was an especially meaningful honour. For me, these achievements represent more than academic success. They reflect years of dedication, perseverance, and growth, as well as the fulfilment of a childhood dream.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h3>Reflections on the Journey<\/h3>\n\n      <p>\n        As I reflect on these four years, I realise that the University of Sri Jayewardenepura has given me far more than an academic qualification. I was provided with a platform to learn, lead, serve, and grow. Every experience, every responsibility, and every person I encountered along the way contributed to my journey in some way.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        To the younger batches who are beginning their own university journeys, my advice is to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. Do not limit your university experience to lectures, examinations, and grades alone. Allow yourself to try things you may not have considered before. Above all, remember that academic excellence and personal growth do not have to exist separately. With dedication and balance, you can pursue both.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        As I turn the page to a new chapter of my life, I carry with me the lessons, values, and memories of these four unforgettable years.
