Mr. Asel Hettiarachchi of the Department of Business Economics was awarded \u201cthe Venerable Prof. Walpola Sri Rahula Maha Thero Memorial Gold Medal\u201d for being the Best Student of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) for the year 2020 at the\u00a046th Convocation of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura\u00a0which was held on\u00a0the 30th<\/sup> of December 2021 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo. This award is presented to the most outstanding graduate in terms of academic and extra-curricular performance among the students who have secured the highest Great Point Average (GPA) in the faculty.<\/p>\n

Mr. Asel managed to become the highest GPA holder of the 2014\/15 batch while extending his contribution to many student organisations in the University, including the Business Economics Students\u2019 Association (BIZCON) during the years 2017 \u2013 2019. He has represented the Department of Business Economics, in several national and international competitions, including the CFA Sri Lanka Research Challenge 2019 and 2020 International Monetary Fund Challenge.<\/p>\n

Further, Mr. Asel Hettiarachchi visited Monash Business School, Monash University, Australia, along with other graduates of the FMSC for a two-week Study Tour. He was a runner up for the Best Team Player Award and a semi-finalist for the Best Employability Skills Achiever award for FMSC at the J\u2019pura Employability Skills Awards (JESA) 2019. Mr. Asel Hettiarachchi was also a Vice-President for the student organisation, AIESEC in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura<\/p>\n

Additionally, he was the recipient of the NIBM Gold Medal, which is awarded to the highest GPA holder of the Department of Business Economics.<\/p>\n

The NIBM Gold Medal is awarded for the best student in the Department of Business Economics, every year at the completion of the degree programme.<\/p>\n
