On 14 August 2026, a guest lecture titled \u201cPsychology through a Medical Eye\u201d was held as part of the BUS2373 Business Psychology Course for second-year undergraduates of our Department, at E111LH, FMSC. Dr. Devni De Silva, Medical Officer – Psychiatry at University Hospital KDU, delivered the session and provided students with valuable insights into psychology from a medical perspective. The session was designed to help undergraduates realise the importance of understanding behavioural changes in themselves and others and to identify symptoms or changes to support their own and others’ well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. De Silva\u2019s session also emphasised the therapeutic potential of music.\u00a0 As such, the Course teaching panel facilitated a session where the students can explore how music nurtures psychological well-being and healing through their engagement with music. Mr. Nuwan Sandamal, guitarist and music instructor, demonstrated how to integrate tranquil music into therapeutic practice. Furthermore, our second-year undergraduates\u2014Mr. Mihisara Jayathunga, Mr. Mihiran Jayathunga, Ms. Nimasha Devmini, and Ms. Thewni Ahinsa\u2014performed vocal pieces, encouraging their peers to consider music as a means of relaxation and self-healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Hemamalie Gunatilaka, the Course Leader, who guided the panel in planning this session; Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Nayomi De Pieris, Head of the Department of Business Administration; and the members of the Course teaching panel participated in the session. The enriching hours brought together aspects of psychology, medicine, and aesthetics, reminding us that learning becomes more meaningful when we use creative methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
