The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, organized a guest lecture under the course COM 3370 \u2013 International Trade and Economic Relations for the B.Com (Hons) Year III undergraduates on 04th March 2026. The session was delivered by Mr. Uresh Fernando, Head of Commercial at Advantis Freight (Pvt) Ltd, Hayleys Advantis Limited<\/strong>, bringing valuable industry-based insights to students studying international trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His lecture focused on T<\/strong>ransportation and Logistics in International Trade, a critical area for understanding how global trade operates in practice. The session covered key aspects of the practical export-import logistics workflow, helping students understand how goods move across borders through coordinated logistics systems. It also addressed Incoterms and responsibility allocation, enabling students to better appreciate the distribution of risks, costs, and obligations among trading parties in international transactions. In addition, the lecture discussed major trade documentation requirements and explained the customs clearance process in Sri Lanka, thereby providing students with a practical overview of the operational and regulatory aspects of trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was especially valuable because it successfully bridged the gap between academic theory and industry practice. Through practical explanations and real-world examples, Mr. Uresh Fernando helped students connect classroom concepts in international trade with the realities of the logistics sector.
