This strong turnout demonstrated the renewed engagement and growing unity among B. Com alumni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AGM commenced with the University Anthem, followed by a welcome address delivered by the Assistant Secretary, Mr Chanaka Madusanka. The Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr Sachin Wijesinghe, addressed the gathering, highlighting the critical role of alumni in bridging academic knowledge with industry practice and supporting the Department\u2019s continued development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the meeting, the President Mr Lalith Kumara presented a comprehensive review of the Association\u2019s progress over the 2025\/26 period. Key achievements highlighted included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Membership Development:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registered membership increased from zero to 44 members, while the official alumni network expanded to over 560 members, supported by improved communication platforms and structured data collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Financial Strengthening:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Association achieved a strong financial turnaround, recording a surplus exceeding Rs. 2 million, primarily driven by the successful execution of the COMSARA \u2013 2025 fundraising initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Institutional Development:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Establishment of formal governance structures, corporate identity elements (logo, official communication channels), and initiation of key long-term initiatives such as the Gold Medal Award for Academic Excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Student and Academic Engagement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organization of career guidance programmes and enhanced collaboration with the Department to support undergraduate development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Treasurer presented the Annual Financial Statements, which were unanimously approved by the membership, reflecting transparency and improved financial discipline within the Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A special highlight of the event was the presentation of a commemorative memento to Mr. S. S. Naotunna, one of the most senior member of the B. Com alumni community, in recognition of his longstanding association with the Department.
