Academic Writing, Referencing, and Ethical Practices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Tharuka Harishchandra delivered a captivating and insightful talk on Academic Writing, Referencing and Ethical Practices on 14 July 2026 with the aim of reinforcing the academic writing skills of the students and advocating ethical practices in academic work. The session was devoted to the basic principles of good academic and professional writing, especially to constructing effective paragraphs by employing good academic language and style. The students were also trained in the proper usage of report templates to create well-structured and polished academic reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session also included a section on referencing and citation, educating the students on the significance of proper referencing and acknowledging sources to maintain academic integrity. Plagiarism, the ethical use of information and sources, and common writing pitfalls to avoid were also discussed during the session. The session was informative and interactive, allowing students to gain knowledge and practice in creating well-structured, professional, ethical, and high-quality academic work through the use of examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI in Academic Research<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session on AI in Academic Research, conducted by Mr. Ravindu Kulawardena on 30 June 2026, provided students with valuable insights into the evolving role of artificial intelligence in academic learning, research, and professional development. The session covered the fundamentals of AI and presented students with several AI tools, such as AI chatbots, presentation and design tools, and text generation software. Students were introduced to these technologies through practical demonstrations, and how they can be used to enhance learning, creativity, efficiency, and productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the main objectives of the session was the responsible and ethical use of AI in academic research. The use of AI tools was encouraged to facilitate learning, all while ensuring the students remained critical thinkers, original and academically honest. The session also discussed the proper recognition of the use of AI assistance and the need to prevent the misuse of AI generated content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to its educational uses, the session also explored the potential of AI in career development and workplace productivity, including skill development, career planning, and professional productivity. The session provided a comprehensive overview of the practical applications of AI, empowering students to leverage it confidently, responsibly, and effectively in their future academic and professional pursuits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Planning and Coordination Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Randunu Rupasinghe, Executive – Planning, Activewear, MAS Capital (Private) Ltd gave the students practical skills on how to plan, coordinate and manage a project effectively in the professional world in the Project Planning and Co-ordination Skills session held on 27 July 2026. The session covered the basics of project management, such as what projects are, how project teams work, and the roles and responsibilities of team members in the successful completion of projects. Students learned how to set clear goals and scope for projects, think about activities and timelines, and use resources effectively to lead to successful project execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significant focus has been on project progress monitoring, risk management and project team accountability. An introduction was also made to students to the commonly used tools while using project management to plan the projects, coordinate them along with tracking the performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the aid of instances and interactive discussions the session correlated project management concepts to actual setting use. It enhanced students’ teamwork skills to work on projects in an organized and responsible way and improved their planning, coordinating and problem solving capabilities which are important in learning and career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
