{"id":315,"date":"2017-01-22T08:39:24","date_gmt":"2017-01-22T08:39:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mgt.sjp.ac.lk\/dsc\/?p=315"},"modified":"2018-03-02T13:28:13","modified_gmt":"2018-03-02T13:28:13","slug":"operations-technology-management-research-symposium-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mgt.sjp.ac.lk\/dsc\/operations-technology-management-research-symposium-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Operations and Technology Management Research Symposium &#8211; OTMRS 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Department of Decision Sciences, FMSC, USJP organized the first department level symposium \u201c<strong>Operations and Technology Management Research Symposium-2016\u201d <\/strong>and the event was held on 29<sup>th<\/sup> December 2016 at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce with the participation of Vice Chancellor, Dean, Heads of departments, Industry participants, Staff members and Students of the Department of Decision Sciences. The aim of this symposium was to open a stage to our research\/internship students to present their research or internship project in front of their peers, staff members of the department, and experts from the industry. The Chief Guest of the event was the Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunge and the keynote speech was done by Mrs. Gayani de Alwis, Consultant, World Bank. Thirteen presentations were made based on selected extended abstracts as follows.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Assessing the Impact of Sourcing Flexibility on Service Quality: A B2B Study in the Construction Industry of Sri Lanka<\/em> by R. Pathmaperuma, and N.W.K. Galahitiyawe<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Factors Affecting Credit Card Usage Behavior: A Study among Sri Lankan Customers<\/em> by K. Senevirathna and D. Kuruppuarachchi<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Learning Effect assessment of Clothing Assembly Line Balancing<\/em> by H. Udalagama and A.N. Wickramasekara<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Impact on Job Delay Time on Service Operation in ABC Workshop<\/em> by S.P. Welgamage and T.M.B. Palawatta<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two extended abstracts presentations were selected for best presentations awards based on the evaluations done by the external panel of session chairs as follows.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">First place:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>The Impact of Suppl\u0131er Switching Cost on the Downstream Supply Cha\u0131n Performance of SMEs, w\u0131th the Moderat\u0131on Effect of the Partnersh\u0131p Qual\u0131ty <\/em>presented by N.R. Pathmaperuma,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Second place: <em>Perceptual Gaps Between Domestic and Foreign Guests Patronizing Hotel Industry of Sri Lanka <\/em>presented by W.D.R Fernando<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Overall, we had very good feedback from the participants, particularly industry participants, on the quality of the research work done by our students. There was a request from industry participants to extend the submission of abstracts to industry level researchers. Also, Vice Chancellor and the Dean suggested to carry out research and projects in collaboration with industry research groups. \u00a0Therefore, the department decided to open up the submission of abstract to researchers in operations, technology and supply chain management who are external to the department.
