SUMMARY:University Investment Day 2020
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Finance being one of the twelve academic departments of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce\, USJ strives to maintain strong links with the key institutions of the financial market of Sri Lanka to produce high quality graduates with a strong theoretical base. \nFollowing much deliberations and discussions\, the Department of Finance organized the “University Investment Day – 2020” on 7th December 2020 virtually via the Zoom platform\, despite the current challenging situation due to COVID 19. This initiation was taken with a view to create awareness of the capital market of Sri Lanka among the students and the entire society at large. \nThe event was graced with the presence of the Dean\, Professor P D Nimal\, the Head of the department\, Dr. P A N S Anuradha and other academic staff members of the department. The Department obtained the contribution from various resource persons of the industry for this event by way of guest lectures\, presentations and interactive sessions. Mr. Tushara Jayarathne\, External Relations and Capital Market Education\, Mr. Rajeeva Bandaranaike-Chief Executive Officer\, Colombo Stock Exchange and Raguram Raamakrishnan- Assistant Vice President\, CAL Asset Management delivered a very insightful presentation on the key areas such as\, the role of SEC\, Securities regulation and market development\, the way forward roadmap of CSE with special reference to digitalization and investing in capital markets of Sri Lanka respectively. \nThe event concluded with an interactive Q & A session which was moderated by Senior Professor D B P H Dissabandara. This session was very informative since many of the questions presented by the event participants were answered and commented. Following the Q & A session\, the senior lecturer Ms. N S Nanayakkara delivered the vote of thanks\, marking the conclusion of the University Investment Day 2020. \nThe event was a great success with a large audience of over 200 participants despite the prevalent pandemic in the country. The Department of Finance will continue to organize many events in the future and position themselves among the top leading degree programmes in the country.
