The annual event was\norganized for the 4<sup>th<\/sup> consecutive year with the main objective of\nformulating an investment community not restricted to university boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Occasion was graced with the valuable presence of the Chief\nGuest Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge \u2013 Vice Chancellor of University of Sri\nJayewardenepura , Guest of Honour Mr. Vajira Wijegunawardane \u2013 Director General\nof Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, Dr. U. Anura Kumara \u2013 Dean\nof the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce with the Head, Dr.\nP.A.N.S.Anuradha, the\nLecture panel of the Department of Finance and the\nLecturers from other departments of the faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Tushara Jayaratne \u2013 Director, External Relations and\nSurveillance, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka, Mr.\nNishantha Hewavithana \u2013 Head of Research and New Products, Colombo Stock\nExchange (CSE), Mr. Sumith Perera \u2013 Head of Portfolio Management, Ceylon\nGuardian Investment Trust PLC, Mr. Amal Sanderatne \u2013 Representative of CFA\nsociety of Sri Lanka and Mr. Yasas Wijethunga \u2013 Research Manager, CT CLSA\nSecurities (Pvt.) Ltd were the keynote speakers for the five sessions of the\nevent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the pre-event presentation, the undergraduates of the\nDepartment of Finance presented a debate on capital market under the theme \u2013 \u201cCapital\nMarket provides equal opportunities and fair platform for all the investors\u201d. &nbsp;The two teams were evaluated by the senior academic\nstaff of the department as well as the industry representatives who were\npresent on the day. It was a good platform for the students to share their\nknowledge and also opened up a good conversation to the keynote speakers during\ntheir speeches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key note speakers delivered their speeches under the following\nareas; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Role of CSE as the market\noperator &#8211; Mr. Nishantha Hewavithana<\/li><li>Securities Regulation and the\nrole of SEC &#8211; Mr. Tushara Jayaratne<\/li><li>How we approach\nforecasting and making predictions &#8211; Mr. Amal Sanderatne<\/li><li>Equity Research and the\nrole of a stock broker in investing in capital market of Sri Lanka &#8211; Mr. Yasas\nWijethunga&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><li>Role and experience of a\nfund manager with regard to investing in Sri Lanka &#8211; Mr. Sumith Perera<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>End of the presentations, all the speakers were invited to a\npanel discussion moderated by Mr.Nichula Witharana, CFA Member, Alumni Member\nof Department of Finance. The students participated this session very actively\nand ask questions from the panelists on different areas of capital market\ndevelopments in Sri Lanka. During the interactive session, the panel of\nfinancial experts shared their knowledge along with the discussion on the\ncurrent trends and developments of the economy of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CDS accounting opening session by CT CLSA Securities (Pvt.) marked\nthe conclusion of the \u201cUniversity Investment Day 2019\u201d. Department of Finance\nplans to organize many productive events like these to enhance the quality of\nthe students as well as strengthen its ties with the outside industry. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul
