On 18 December 2025, the Department of Information Technology successfully conducted the final evaluations of the Fourth Year Second Semester. These included viva voce examinations for the course module ITC 4676 \u2013 Internship in Information Systems, as well as evaluations for ITC 4682 – Technopreneurship in Information Systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internship module is designed to provide students with hands-on industry exposure, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world organisational environments while developing professional, technical, and entrepreneurial competencies. All students who appeared for the viva had completed their internships at reputed organisations, undertaking roles closely aligned with the field of Information Systems. Their experiences spanned a wide range of IT-related domains, reflecting both the relevance of the curriculum and the evolving demands of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The viva evaluations confirmed the successful completion of internships, with students demonstrating strong technical proficiency, professional discipline, problem-solving capabilities, and effective communication skills. Notably, several students received offers of permanent employment or promotions in recognition of their outstanding performance, commitment, and contributions during the internship period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, students who established startup ventures as part of the Technopreneurship module are progressing well in their entrepreneurial journeys. These ventures were evaluated by:
Prof. Sriyani Ranasinghe, Former Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship; Mr. Vajeendra S. Kandegamage, Chairman of the BCS Sri Lanka Section and Founder\/Managing Director of StemCoreAsia; and Mr. Shujan Suntharalingam, Visiting Lecturer of the Department and Product Management Consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the viva sessions, students were hosted for light refreshments by the academic staff, followed by a group photograph to mark the occasion.

These final evaluations marked more than the completion of academic requirements; they symbolised a voyage, a defining transition from structured university learning to independent professional and entrepreneurial practice. Through their internships and startup initiatives, students navigated real-world challenges, adapted to industry expectations, and began shaping their professional identities, making this phase a significant milestone in their journey as emerging Information Systems professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
