The VJM is dedicated to publishing quality and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">original research papers in Management and related areas. This issue<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">contains eight research papers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">The research papers included in this issue are covering areas of impact of<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">taxation on economic growth; influence of empathy and cynicism on<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">green buying intention; marginal social cost and Pigouvian tax in a<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Ramsey setting; factors influencing savings behaviour among<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">households; insurance companies&#8217; financial and market performance;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">organizational resilience; customers\u2019 technology know-how and selfservice technologies; a legal framework for data protection and privacy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">The first paper analyses the short-run and long-run impact of taxation on<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">the economic growth using a linear Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">(ARDL) model under two scenarios: without controlling for economic<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">liberalization (from 1960 to 2018) and the post-liberalized period (from<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">1980 to 2018). The results of both pre- and post-economic liberalization<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">conditions suggest that there is a significant long-run positive impact of<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">tax level on economic growth. This implies that increasing taxes is a<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">viable policy option in achieving fiscal independence without<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">compromising growth potential in Sri Lanka.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Examining the influence of empathy and cynicism on green buying<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">intention and the mediating mechanism of consumer ethical beliefs is the<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">focus of the second paper. The results revealed that empathy and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">cynicism predict consumer intention to buy green products directly and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">indirectly through ethical beliefs. The study asserts that the findings<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">particularly important for developing countries like Sri Lanka in<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">promoting sustainable consumption which enhances environmental,&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">social and future generations\u2019 well-being.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">The third research paper is investigating the relationship between<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Pigouvian tax and marginal social cost in the presence of distortionary<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">taxes such as commodity and wage taxes in a Ramsey setting. The results<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">indicated that the Pigouvian tax in the presence of wage tax is higherwhen the marginal social cost was considered a variable as opposed to a<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">constant. The mathematical models used in this study enable to see the<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">factors, such as homogeneity\/heterogeneity of household preferences and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">marginal social cost assumed as a variable as opposed to a constant, that<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">impact the dynamics in determining the optimal Pigouvian tax.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">The fourth research paper approximates the socio-economic and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">demographic factors towards the level of saving of households in Sri<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Lanka using a quantile regression approach based on the Household<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Income and Expenditure Survey, conducted by the Department of Census<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">and Statistics of Sri Lanka. The results showed that gender, income,<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">education level have a significant positive impact towards the level of<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">saving among households, whilst marital status and poverty have a<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">significant negative impact towards the level of saving.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Insurance companies offer a range of economic and social benefits, such<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">as minimizing the impact of losses, reducing uncertainty and fear, and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">creating job opportunities. Accordingly, the fifth paper critically analyzed<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">the impact of company-specific and macro-economic factors on<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">insurance companies&#8217; financial and market performance in Sri Lanka. The<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">study provides evidence that the capital structure, capital adequacy, GDP<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">growth rate, size of the company and liquidity position are essential<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">factors that affect the insurance sector&#8217;s financial and market<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">performances.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">The concept of resilience is considered to be a very promising notion for<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">explaining how businesses can survive and develop in the face of<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">adversity or instability. The sixth paper evaluates the phases or<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">dimensions of the organizational resilience process and its contradictions<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">in order to improve the understanding of this complex and embedded<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">construct. Findings revealed that contradictions which are encountered in<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">different phases of the organizational resilience process are paradoxical<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">tensions. The study proposed a framework that<br \/>conceptualizes<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">organizational resilience dimensions to be managed as a paradox to<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">enhance the understanding of the concept of organizational resilience and<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">thereby facilitate its operationalization.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: black; font-style: inherit;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">Self-service technologies (SSTs) are characterized as the technologies,<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">provided by an organization, specifically to enable customers to engage<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">in self-service behaviors. Exploring the customer technology know-how,customers&#8217; corrective actions in the event of SSTs service\/process<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">failures, and differences between customers in terms of service<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">performance, technology know-how, and error corrective capabilities in<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">SSTs are the focus of the seventh paper. The study identified four types<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">of knowledge that SSTs users need to effectively complete service<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">transactions: computer knowledge, SST device knowledge, internet<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">knowledge, and language ability. Furthermore, the study classified<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">numerous mechanisms used by customers to correct errors in SSTs as<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">&#8216;error preventing&#8217; or &#8216;error recovering&#8217; mechanisms. Interestingly, the<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">study discovered customer performance disparities among SSTs based on<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">their level of technological expertise and error-correcting capabilities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">The eighth research paper assesses the existing legal framework on data<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">protection and privacy in Sri Lanka by comparing the Sri Lankan legal<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">framework with the UK and Singapore, the countries that are known as<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">pioneers of data protection and privacy. With the comprehensive review<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">of existing legal frameworks, the study provides a basic guideline to the<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">policymakers in Sri Lanka on how prevailing data protection and privacy<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">regime need to be improved as non-existence of specific\/separate law to<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">deal with data protection and privacy which is identified as a major gap<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">in the law.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">On a final note, we are grateful for the contribution of authors, reviewers,<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">editorial board and the publisher for their continuous support in<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;line-height:107%\">publishing of another volume and look forward to obtaining their<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black\"> <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\">valuable scholarly contribution for the upcoming volumes as well.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:107%\"><span class=\"fontstyle01\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt; line-height:107%;mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:SI-LK\">Dr. L.
