The Third-Year undergraduates of the Department of Decision Sciences recently participated in an educational field visit to the Colombo Harbour 25th June 2026, gaining valuable insights into Sri Lanka’s maritime logistics and port operations.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Chamara Wijayawickrama and Mr. Pradeep Karunathilaka for facilitating this enriching learning experience. The visit commenced with an informative session that provided an overview of the Colombo Harbour, its strategic importance to Sri Lanka’s economic performance, future development prospects, and the diverse career opportunities available in the maritime logistics sector.

The students then engaged in an experiential learning session, observing terminal operations, cargo handling activities, and operational planning processes. This practical exposure enabled them to gain first-hand knowledge of how port operations support international trade and contribute to the efficient movement of goods through global supply chains.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world logistics and transport operations. We sincerely appreciate the support and expertise shared by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority team in creating such a meaningful and insightful learning experience.
