Awarding Ceremony of  Dr. W.A. Wijewardena Public Management (Merit) Scholarship -2024

The W.A. Wijewardena Public Management (Merit) Scholarship, established in 2014 to recognize and support exceptional undergraduates for their academic achievements, was awarded consecutively in 2024 to four distinguished students enrolled in the BSc (Hons) in Management (Public) and BSc Management (Special) Degree Programs.

The scholarship recipients for 2024 are:

  • Ms. Sridhran Kanisha (2022/2023 batch) – for achieving the highest Z-score in the 2022 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.
  • Ms. Maneesha Geethanjali (2021/2022 batch) – for securing the highest marks in the First-Year Examination (Semesters I and II).
  • Mr. Hasith Sandaruwan (2020/2021 batch) – for obtaining the highest marks in the Second-Year Examination (Semesters I and II).
  • Ms. Thaschana Thiruchandiram (2019/2020 batch) – for earning the highest marks in the Third-Year Examination (Semesters I and II).

The award ceremony took place on November 1, 2024, at Taylor Hall, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, commencing at 4:00 p.m. The event was honored by the presence of the scholarship’s founder, Dr. W.A. Wijewardena, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Dr. Wijewardena shared his insights on the importance of academic excellence and the value of cultivating skills that transcend sectors, encouraging students to pursue versatile career paths.

Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty, also delivered remarks, reinforcing the faculty’s dedication to developing future leaders in public administration and celebrating the scholarship’s impact in motivating students to uphold exceptional academic standards.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. W.G.T.S. Senanayaka, Head of the Department of Public Administration; Dr. R.P.C.K. Jayasinghe, President of the Public Administration Alumni Association; along with several senior and junior faculty members. The event underscored the department’s sustained commitment to academic achievement and excellence in public service.
