Third-year undergraduates of the Department of Decision Sciences explore Airport Passenger Experience and Air Cargo Operations at Bandaranaike International Airport
The Department of Decision Sciences recently organized an educational field visit to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, for third-year undergraduates following the Logistics and Transport Management course.
The visit commenced with an in-depth exploration of the customer journey at Sri Lanka’s primary international gateway. Students traced the complete passenger experience from arrival at the airport through check-in, security screening, departure procedures, and boarding.
The students then visited the Air Cargo Village, where they gained valuable insights into air cargo operations and logistics. The session covered the end-to-end cargo handling process, including cargo acceptance, documentation, warehousing, cargo build-up, and export and import operations.
The field visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect the theoretical concepts learned in the Logistics and Transport Management course with real-world practices in passenger service operations and international air cargo logistics.
