Annual Field Visit – 2026 - Department of Public Administration / University of Sri Jayewardenepura

The Annual Field Visit – 2026 of the Department of Public Administration, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, was successfully conducted on 3 August 2026 in Gampola, providing our third-year undergraduates with an invaluable opportunity to gain practical exposure beyond the classroom.

As part of the field visit, the undergraduates visited the Udapalatha Divisional Secretariat, Gampola, to gain first-hand experience in disaster management while engaging in field data collection through household interviews.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the field visit provided valuable insights into disaster preparedness, community resilience, and evidence-based public administration. It also enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experiences in the field and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by communities in disaster-prone areas.

The field visit was organized by Senior Professor and Chair, Prof. Lalitha S. Fernando, and Assistant Lecturer, Mrs. H. K. A. U. Nonis. Mr. H. Harshana Madhubasha, Ms. W. K. C. S. Walpola, Ms. E. A. G. Ekanayake, and Ms. S. Gamage of the Department of Public Administration also participated in and provided support throughout the field visit.

The Department of Public Administration extends its sincere appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty, and the Bursar and the Head of the Department for their support and for facilitating the necessary approvals and financial arrangements, which contributed significantly to making this field visit a meaningful and enriching learning experience for our undergraduates.
