Discussion on the MoU between the Department of Public Administration, FMSC, USJ and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Kabianga

On September 23, 2024, the Department of Public Administration, FMSC, held a virtual meeting with the University of Kabianga, Kenya, to discuss about a potential collaboration and a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities. The meeting brought together representatives from both the universities including Dr. Benedicta Tabot (Dean, School of Education, Arts and Social Sciences), Prof. Issa Mwamzandi (Director, Research, Linkages, and Extension), Dr. Thomas Otieno Juma (Head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences) from the University of Kabianga, alongside Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce), Dr. B.S. Galdolage (Director, International Affairs, FMSC), Prof. L.A.P. Maduwanthi (Department of Public Administration), Mr. W.G. Tharaka Senanayka (Head, Department of Public Administration) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Discussion focused on seven key areas of collaboration, including faculty and student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing platforms. Both sides emphasized the importance of international exposure, cultural exchange, and ensuring synergy and continuity throughout the partnership. Interim activities were proposed to maintain momentum until the formal MoU is signed.

In addition, the meeting highlighted the need for a governance structure to ensure smooth communication and execution of collaborative activities, the use of digital platforms for efficient interaction, and the establishment of performance metrics and regular reviews to monitor progress every six months.
