Bridging Innovation and Industry: Students Visit ITI for Practical Exposure

The Department of Entrepreneurship at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized a practical learning visit to the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) on 30 th May 2025, aimed at empowering students with essential technical knowledge for launching their own business ventures.

This initiative was specifically tailored for undergraduates who are preparing to introduce new products to the market. The visit provided them with a unique opportunity to understand the critical role of scientific and technical assistance in transforming an idea into a marketable product.

At ITI, students were introduced to a wide array of services including product research and development, quality and safety testing, and certification processes. Industry experts explained how ITI supports startups and entrepreneurs through laboratory facilities, product formulation, and compliance guidance — all of which are essential to ensure a product meets industry and consumer standards.

The students were able to engage in meaningful discussions with professionals, ask questions relevant to their entrepreneurial goals, and witness real-world applications of technical processes. The experience not only expanded their understanding of product development but also emphasized the importance of regulatory alignment and quality assurance in building credible, sustainable businesses.

The Department of Entrepreneurship continues to organize such experiential learning opportunities to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and industry practice, preparing students to navigate the complexities of starting and scaling their own ventures.
