Department of Entrepreneurship Contributes to Financial Literacy Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs

The Department of Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, extended its academic and professional support to a workshop titled “නැගී සිටින්නට අත්වැලක්: කාන්තා ව්‍යවසායිකාවන් සඳහා මූලික සාක්ෂරතාවය”, focused on enhancing Financial Literacy among Women Entrepreneurs.

The programme was organised by the National Chapter of the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (SLNC-OWSD) on 14th January 2026 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. The event was conducted in collaboration with the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Centre for Research, Development and Innovation (CRDI), and the Department of Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Representing the Department, Prof. Rukmal Weerasinghe, Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Dhanuka Perera, Lecturer in the Department of Entrepreneurship, together with Mr. Kevin Fernando, Lecturer from the Department of Sports Science, served as resource persons, delivering guest lectures on key aspects of Financial Literacy relevant to women entrepreneurs.

In addition, several members of the Department and its alumni community contributed as mentors, including Prof. Sriyani Ranasinghe, Ms. Ruvini Perera, Ms. Imasha Ranwalage, Mr. Dulanjana Withanage, and Ms. Lakmini Weerakody. Their engagement provided participants with practical guidance and personalised support throughout the programme.

The Department’s contribution to this initiative reflects its continued commitment to community engagement, knowledge dissemination, and capacity building, particularly in supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs through applied entrepreneurial education and mentorship.
