“Beyond the Horizon: Conceptualizing the Entrepreneurial Endeavors” – The First Research Symposium in Entrepreneurship

The Department of Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized the First Research Symposium in Entrepreneurship under the theme of  “Beyond the Horizon: Conceptualizing the Entrepreneurial Endeavors” which was held on 05th July 2018 at the Board Room, Soratha Building of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce with the participation of industry participants, academic members of  Department of Entrepreneurship as well as Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and undergraduates and postgraduate students of the Department of Entrepreneurship.

The main objectives of this event were to provide a platform for the entrepreneurial researchers, academics and undergraduates of the Department of Entrepreneurship to share their research findings in the field of entrepreneurship.

The Chief Guest of this event was Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura while the Key Note Speaker was Dr. Nayana Dehigama, Founder and Chairman / Managing Director of Epic Technology Group.

As an innovative outcome of the Department of Entrepreneurship, a song on entrepreneurship was launched on the above day for the first time in Sri Lanka. This was performed by a group of undergraduates of Misicology Department, Faculty of Music, University of Visual and Performing Arts. Moreover, two new volumes of the Innovator Magazine was also released on the Research Day 2018 which was coordinated and organized by the postgraduate students (batch 2017/19 and batch 2016/18) of the department.

The Research Day included research presentation sessions of academic staff of the department, graduates of the department and post-graduate students of the department as well as a poster presentation session of the undergraduates of the department who are currently undertaking their final research study in entrepreneurship. Thus the event enabled the researchers to obtain valuable comments and suggestions on their completed and work-in-progress research activities.

The organizing committee of the Research Day 2018 consisted of an Advisory Panel consisting of  Mr. Rukmal Weerasinghe (Head, Department of Entreprneurship) and Ms. Sriyani Ranasinghe (Lecturer– Department of Entrepreneurship), Academic Coordinator – Ms. Pubudini Liyanage (Lecturer – Department of Entrepreneurship), Ms. Chathini De Silva (Asst. Lecturer  – Department of Entrepreneurship), Ms. Thamoda Karunarathne (Research Assistant – Department of Entrepreneurship) and the undergraduates of the – Department of Entrepreneurship.
