Inauguration of Master Degree in Entrepreneurship Program 2015/2017

The inauguration ceremony of Master Degree in Entrepreneurship Program 2015/2017 was

successfully held on Saturday, 26th of September, 2015 from 4.00 p.m. onwards at Golden

Rose Recreation Complex, Boralesgamuwa.

Master Degree in Entrepreneurship Program is organized and conducted by the Department

of Entrepreneurship of Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce together with the

Faculty of Graduate Studies of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. It intends to produce

professional entrepreneurs to the nation who are capable of revolutionizing the society

challenging the traditions through their creative and innovative capabilities. This course

presents followers an intense two year period of personal and professional transformation

which direct them for living a victorious life and empowering them to build a prosperous

motherland.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted to mark the commencement of third student

intake for the program with a selected batch of forty eight students. Prof. Sampath

Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Sagarika Ekanayake,

Acting Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof. Roshan Perera, Director / Professor in Bio

Chemistry, Institute for Combinatorial Advanced Scientific Research and Education, General

Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, Prof. Rohini Samarasinghe, Coordinator, Career

Guidance Unit, Dr. P.J Kumarasinghe, Coordinator, MBA/MPM/M.Sc. (Management)

Program, Dr. P.D Nimal Former Coordinator, MBA/MPM/M.Sc. (Management) Program,

Dr. A.R Ajward Senior Lecturer, Department of Accounting, Mr. Rukmal Weerasinghe ,

Head, Department of Entrepreneurship, Mr. Sudath Amarasena, Senior Lecturer Department

of Decision Sciences, academic staff of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Faculty of

Management Studies and Commerce, and the students of Master Degree in Entrepreneurship

program participated in this event.

Mr. Rukmal Weerasinghe, Head, Department of Entrepreneurship and the Coordinator

Master Degree in Entrepreneurship Program welcoming the gathering highlighted the need of

entrepreneurship education to Sri Lanka. He conveyed his gratitude to the initiator of the

program Mr. Shyaman Udayanga, Former Head, Department of Entrepreneurship for his

great service in designing and implementing this study concept to promote entrepreneurial

education in Sri Lanka. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri

Jayewardenepura, and Prof. Sagarika Ekanayake, Acting Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies

and Dr. P.J Kumarasinghe, Coordinator, MBA/MPM/M.Sc. (Management) Program also

addressed the gathering stressing the importance of concept of entrepreneurship as an

emerging field of studies and how its practical implications helps to support a nation uplifting

both its economic and social standards. Prof. Roshan Perera, Director / Professor in Bio

Chemistry, Institute for Combinatorial Advanced Scientific Research and Education, General

Sir John Kotelawala Defense University delivered the key note address and shared his

experiences in their research contributions for adding value to traditional industries through

creativity and innovation.

Two students from previous batches namely Mr. Chandana Kumara, Managing Director,

Water Care Technologies (Pvt) Ltd and Mr. Chathuranga Kariawasam, Director -Roots

Global (Pvt) Ltd shared their experiences in Master Degree in Entrepreneurship Program and

showed how it has inspired them in their entrepreneurial careers. Ms. Yeshika Somarathne,

Assistant Coordinator of Master Degree in Entrepreneurship program delivered vote of

thanks and conveyed best wishes for the new entrants. Inauguration ceremony then was

followed by a cocktail and dinner.
