Rukmal Weerasinghe has started his career as a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Department of Business Administration of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in the year 2001 and continue his service to date as a professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship in the same university. His involvement in teaching during last 22 years in the disciplines such as Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior, Production/Operations Management, Strategic Management, Managing for Productivity and Quality, Managing for Creativity and Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Global Business Management, Research Methods and Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship has permitted to serve to academic community at undergraduate as well as postgraduate levels. He is supervising and examining the thesis of PhD, Masters’ and undergraduate students who are conducting research studies in his fields of expertise.
He has been joined with the Manchester Institute of Innovation, Manchester Business School of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom as a visiting scholar in 2012. Rukmal has visited Zhejiang Shuren University several times to deliver lectures and developed relationship between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and the Zhejiang Shuren University from 2015. He has now been appointed as a professor in School of Economics for two years period from 2023.
He has completed the PhD in 2020 from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka by submitting his PhD thesis titled “Assessment of the National Innovation System of Sri Lanka”. He has published several research papers locally and internationally and presented numerous research papers local as well as international conferences in the fields of innovation, national innovation system, SMEs and entrepreneurship. He is working as a reviewer of many international research journals. He is a member of the research team of the ‘Strengthening University-Enterprise Collaborations for Resilient Communities in Asia (SECRA)’ a project funded by the ERASMUS+ program of the European Community.
