Study India Programme – University Visit (University of Sri Jayewardenepura/ Lovely Professional University)

 

Since its inception in 1959, the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce has been committed to the highest standard of education, with its mission to be the center of excellence for management education in Sri Lanka. It currently offers twelve bachelor’s degree programs including B.Sc. Entrepreneurship (Special) introduced by the Department of Entrepreneurship by understanding the importance of the education system that produces entrepreneurs of high intellectual and professional caliber and encouraging and fostering the entrepreneurial business development in the country that is capable of filling the vacuum as well as to execute national needs.

To that effect, and for the successful maintenance of the MoU between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Lovely Professional University, India, a private university situated in Jalandhar, Punjab, India established in 2005 with the motto of ‘Transforming education, transforming India’, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, with collaboration with the India Sri Lanka Foundation has initiated a Twinning Program where the undergraduates of the Department of Entrepreneurship, of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, would visit Lovely Professional University in an effort to promote Entrepreneurial initiatives and to gain international exposure and experience for the students.

The visit is funded partly by the India Sri Lanka Foundation which itself was established in 1998 through a Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of Sri Lanka and India with the objective of fostering Indo-Sri Lanka relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, educational, technical and cultural cooperation and the promotion of greater understanding between the peoples of the two countries. This includes the cost of air travel and the rest of the expenses are funded by the various fundraising activities by the undergraduates and the Department of Entrepreneurship. The visit is planned to begin on the 19th of November till the 29th of November, 2018 and will include 7 students and 4 faculty members. The visit is a continuation of a long-standing tradition of the department of sending students abroad in order to provide them with experiences and exposure that would otherwise be impossible to gain. Similar foreign visits have been organized in the past consecutive years to Singapore, Malaysia, China and India.

The goals of this visit is to:

  • Taking initiatives to inculcate entrepreneurial cultures within universities and sharing of experiences of the same
  • Exposing students to foreign cultures
  • Enhancing the entrepreneurial skills of students
  • Promoting academic relationship between the universities.
  • Promoting academic, cultural, sports, co-curricular and other activities of common interest

This tour will achieve the above goals through a 5-day program including interactive lecture sessions, cultural programs will conclude with a planned Industrial visit to International Tractor Limited.
