A Two-Day Residential Workshop for Global Business Management

A two-day residential workshop aiming global business management was conducted for the students of Master of Entrepreneurship of Department of Entrepreneurship on 10th and 11th of September at Kolonne River Side Garden Hotel, Awissawella. The program was organized by the students of Master of Entrepreneurship 2014/16. The main objective of the program was to enhance the knowledge and skills of the students regarding global businesses and to encourage them to go beyond the local boundaries tapping the global opportunities. They were given an exposure to the global context highlighting the importance of becoming global entrepreneurs for the development of themselves and the nation as a whole.

Associate Professor (Dr.) Huang Qiubo(Deputy Dean-Institute of Modern Service Institution Zhejiang Shuren University , China),Mr.DarshanaPerera (Deputy Director-Export Agriculture) of the Export Developmend Board, Mr.PrassannaPremarathna(Vice President-Trade Services) of DFCC Bank PLC participated as the resource persons for the day 01. A detailed analysis of the business relationships between China and Sri Lanka was done by Dr.Quibo and he opened the eyes of the students regarding the prevailing opportunities in China for them to invest.During the session students were exposed to the opportunities available in the global sphere and the assistance given by EDB to promote exporters. Further the involvement and the role of banks in international trade were discussed.

On the day 02 a very enviable speech on international logistics was delivered by Mr. F.P Paiva, chief executive officer of 3rd Party Logistics (Pvt) Ltd which gave an in-depth understanding on the topic along with its practical application. This was followed by inspirational speeches of two entrepreneurs- Mr.DanushaKarunarathna( Director, Dangalawatte Natural Rubber (Pvt) Ltd. and Mr.NalakaWakkumbura (Managing Director, Wakkumbura Industrial Technology Company (Pvt) Ltd.The program was graced by Dr. P.J Kumarasinghe (Senior Lecturer of Department of Business Economics- USJP) and Mr. R.N Weerasinghe (Head/ Senior Lecturer of Department of Entrepreneurship) who also shared their knowledge with the participants.

The program also furnished the students with the chances to test their own team work, negotiation and other social skills as well as the opportunity to assess their own and their colleagues’ strengths and weaknesses in challenging situations. Lectures of the Department of Entrepreneurship also took part in the event.
