Visit to Chongqing Jiaotong University and Zhejian Shuren University

R.N. Weerasinghe, Senior Lecturer, Department of Entrepreneurship visited China to visit Chongqing Jiaotong University and Zhejian Shuren University for making academic collaborations and attend to the 8th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on ‘Entrepreneurship Education for the 4th Industrial Revolution’ held in Hangzhou, China, from 26th of September to 12th October 2019.

Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, the Vice chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Mr. Weesinghe visited Jiaotong University in China on 29th of September 2019. This university had been established in 1951 as a public university and performing in different fields of studies while their main expertise is focused on the field of Engineering.  The purpose of visit was establishing long term collaboration between to universities and the two universities entered into agreements by signing a MoU aiming at,

  • Establishing ‘The Silk Road Innovation Academy’ joining with recently established Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, university of Sri Jayewardenepura.
  • To develop Joint Industry – Academy collaboration projects under Belt & Road framework, each party will contribute its own strengths and resources to process the relevant projects smoothly.
  • To develop Belt & Road related international educational and training program for students and professionals in collaboration with the relevant entities from China, Sri Lanka and other countries where such programs are needed.
  • To develop joint-research projects based on timely requirements of socio-economic development of both countries.
  • To develop pathway programs for teachers and staff of both universities pursuing master or doctoral degrees.

Mr. Weerasinghe attended Zhejian Shuren University on 6th and 8th of October to discuss the progress of the MoU signed between two universities and engaged in fruitful discussion on future progression of the relationships already developed by exchanging staff and students between two universities during last four-year period.

Finally, he attended the 8th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on ‘Entrepreneurship Education for the 4th Industrial Revolution’ held in Hangzhou, China, which was organized by UNESCO and the Zhejiang University from 09th of September to 11th of October 2019. The conference was organized to share new knowledge and experiences in Entrepreneurship Education paying attention to digital industrial revolution. Around 200 hundred participants from 30 different nations were gathered to this valuable forum and created a larger network with the stakeholders in the field of Entrepreneurship Education around the world.
