
University Investment Day 2024: Cultivating Financial Literacy and Promoting an Investment Culture
The Students’ Association of Finance of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully hosted University Investment Day 2024 on 12th December 2024 at the university premises. The event brought together students, academics, and industry professionals to foster an investment culture and equip undergraduates with critical financial knowledge essential for navigating today’s dynamic financial landscape.
The program commenced with a thought-provoking debate between two teams representing the Department of Finance. The debate served as a platform to showcase the participants’ analytical and critical thinking skills, setting an engaging and intellectual tone for the day.
Following this, the event featured three insightful sessions conducted by distinguished industry experts:
- Mr. Tushara Jayaratne, Deputy Director General, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC),
“Impact of Technology Transformation, Regulatory Changes in the Investment Environment, and the Role of Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) & Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)”
- Mr. Dasun Perera, Chief Executive Officer, Senfin Securities Ltd.,
“Navigating Post-Crisis Capital Markets: The Evolving Role of Stockbrokers in Sri Lanka”
- Mr. Kavin Karunamoorthy, Chief Executive Officer, First Capital Asset Management Ltd.,
“The Strategic Role of Fund Managers in Sri Lanka: Insights into Unit Trusts and Emerging Investment Trends”
The event concluded with a CDS and Unit Trust account opening session, conducted with the support of Senfin Securities Ltd and First Capital Holdings PLC. This session provided students with a unique opportunity to take their first steps into the world of investments, offering practical exposure to financial markets and reinforcing the key concepts discussed throughout the day.
University Investment Day 2024 served as a pivotal platform for promoting financial literacy and fostering an investment culture among university undergraduates.
