Snehadhara ‘24: Empowering Futures at Karukkumaduwa Junior School, Puttalam
The Students’ Association of Finance (SAF) of the Department of Finance, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, proudly commemorated the 10th milestone of its flagship CSR initiative, Snehadhara, with the successful conclusion of Snehadhara ‘24 on December 13, 2024. Rooted in the mission of uplifting schools facing financial hardships, Snehadhara continues to serve as a transformative force in strengthening the nation’s education system.
This year’s initiative selected Karukkumaduwa Junior School in Puttalam as its beneficiary. Under the visionary leadership of Prof. Chandana Gunathilaka, Head of the Department of Finance, and with the steadfast support of dedicated lecturers, undergraduates, and alumni, the project introduced impactful improvements to the school’s infrastructure and resources.
Key Contributions of Snehadhara ‘24 included:
- Donation of a water filtration system, ensuring access to safe drinking water and addressing a critical challenge faced by schools in the dry zone.
- Renovation of school buildings, creating an improved and more conducive environment for learning.
- Distribution of essential stationery to students from Grades 1 to 11, supporting and empowering their academic aspirations.
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished faculty members, including Mrs. Miyuki Peiris, Mr. Ruwanga Wijesooriya, and Ms. Aruni Galappaththi, alongside enthusiastic participation from 2nd-year undergraduates and alumni. Their collective presence underscored the shared vision and collaborative spirit behind this remarkable initiative.
In addition to infrastructure enhancements, the day’s proceedings featured interactive activities that fostered meaningful engagement between undergraduates and schoolchildren, leaving an enduring impact on all participants.
As Snehadhara marks its 10th year, the Department of Finance takes immense pride in the unwavering dedication and efforts of the Students’ Association of Finance.
