Outbound Workshop – The Applied Finance Graduate Program of the Department of Finance
The Applied Finance Graduate Program of the Department of Finance organized an outbound workshop on the 24th of January 2016 at the Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa. The Coordinator of this program, Dr. K.L.W. Perera, pointed out at the workshop that the main intention of organizing this workshop was to enhance the generic and research skills of our postgraduate students.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunga graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Dr. G. Tanthirigama, Dean of NSBM, also participated as a special invitee. Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara, Head of the Department of Finance, Dr. Sumudu Perera, Head of the Department of Business Economics, Mr. S.N.B.M.W. Narayana, Assistant General Manager, Small and Medium Enterprises and Prof. Weerakoon Banda, initiator of the program, were also among the distinguished gathering. The workshop consisted of three sessions. In the first session, Prof. Rohana Kuruppu, CEO of the Brandix College of Clothing Technology and Dr. B.J.H. Arachchige, a senior lecturer of the Department of Human Resources Management conducted two guest lectures. During the second session, the current students of the Program made presentations on analysis of the companies of selected sectors listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange and this session was discussed by an eminent panel of academics and practitioners. In the final session, the lecturers and graduated students of the program shared their research experiences with the participants. Finally, our postgraduate students gained a lot through the programme as they were able to get an understanding of their current positions as postgraduate students and they realized the expectations of the program.
