Department of IT Congratulates Ms. Lakshana Assalarachchi on Winning the Research Excellence Gold Medal

The Department of Information Technology is proud to announce that Ms Lakshana Assalarachchi, a distinguished BIS alumna and former academic staff member, has been awarded the Research Excellence Gold Medal for the MPhil programme offered by the Board of Study in Multidisciplinary Studies. The award was presented at the Postgraduate Convocation of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, held on 19th November 2025.

A former recipient of the Microsoft Sri Lanka Gold Medal from the BIS Batch of 2016/17, Ms Assalarachchi continues to excel academically and professionally. She is currently pursuing her PhD at Monash University, Australia, further advancing her research career.

Her MPhil study, titled “Cloud-based Project Management Software Adoption in Managing Software Development Projects: A Study of the Software Development Industry in Sri Lanka”, was supervised by Senior Prof. Champa Hewagamage (Department of IT) and co-supervised by Dr Prabhani Pitigala Liyanage, a BIS alumna from the inaugural Batch 1 (2001/2002).
