BIS Student Wins SLUSA Colours for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, and 2024)

Ms. Jayathri Wijewardena, a fourth-year undergraduate from the BIS degree program of the Department of IT, has been awarded SLUSA Colours for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, and 2024) by the Sri Lanka University Sports Association, recognizing her performance in netball. She also contributed to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura by winning the President’s Challenge Trophy for Netball 2024, an award donated by late president HE. J.R. Jayewardena. She has been a netball player for 14 years and while representing University of Sri Jayewardenepura, she competed in the Inter University Netball Championship in 2022, where the team emerged as 2nd runners-up. In 2023, she stepped up as the Vice Captain and once again led the team to secure 2nd runners-up at the Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG). Her leadership journey peaked in 2024 when she captained the team to victory, clinching the championship title at the Inter-University Games after six years. Throughout her university career, Ms. Wijewardana was also awarded Japura Warna (University Colours) for netball in 2022, 2023, and 2024. At the 2023 ceremony, she was further recognized with the Best Player Award for her individual performance. In addition, she served as the Vice Secretary of the Sports Council Executive Board in 2023 and was part of the university’s historic three-peat victory at the Sri Lanka University Games 2023. Now, as she has entered her final year, Ms. Wijewardana continues to represent the university for one last time, in the upcoming Sri Lanka University Games 2025.
