BIS Students Shine at Prestigious AmCham Bootcamp

The AmCham Bootcamp, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Colombo, Sri Lanka is a prestigious program designed to cultivate leadership, professional growth, and industry exposure among Sri Lanka’s top university students. Ms. Kavindi Ranasinghe, a fourth-year student, and Ms. Amaya Amarasinghe, a third-year student, from the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, participated in this transformative eight-week initiative. Selected among 20 students from universities across Sri Lanka, Ms. Ranasinghe was mentored by Mr. Dilshan Perera, Country Head of International Subsidiary Banking at HSBC, while Ms. Amarasinghe was guided by Ms. Dinoo De Mel, Senior Director-Finance/Country Controller at Virtusa. The program provided hands-on internship experience, one-to-one mentoring sessions, networking opportunities with industry experts, field visits to leading organizations like MAS Fabric Park, Coca-Cola, and Bank of Ceylon, and professional sessions at Virtusa, Microsoft, and Sysco Labs, focusing on soft skills and competencies such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability. Both students excelled in the final pitch competition, earning spots among the top five presenters. They shared their experiences at the closing ceremony at the U.S. Embassy, attended by the U.S. Ambassador. The Department of IT is proud of their achievements, showcasing the excellence of USJ students on a national platform.
