BISSS 2026: Seventh BIS Student Symposium Successfully Concludes

The Seventh BIS Student Symposium (BISSS 2026), organized by the Department of Information Technology, was held on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 1:00 PM onwards at E315LH & E304LH Halls, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The symposium provided a platform for students to share their research findings and fresh insights in Information Technology, while also facilitating engagement with professionals from academia and industry. This year, the event was once again held as part of the ICBM 2026 Research Week.

The event featured two keynote addresses, followed by 11 presentations showcasing outstanding research projects and Information Systems development project studies conducted by the department’s undergraduates.
The symposium concluded with a panel discussion on the theme: “Leading Digital Transformation: What Future Tech Leaders Need to Know About Strategy, Challenges & AI”.

The first keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Nalin A. G. Arachchilage, Associate Professor in Cyber Security and Privacy, RMIT University, Australia, on the topic “Security and Privacy Engineering for Critical Infrastructure: Why It Matters and How to Get It Right”.

The second keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Dinidu Hewage, Founder & CEO – Ones & Zeros Pvt Ltd, on the topic “Designing Tech that Serves a Nation: Lessons from CROPIX”

The panel discussion featured esteemed industry professionals, including Ms. Chadika Yahampath, Head of Operations at Just In Time Group, Ms. Hashy Perera, Deputy Head of Operations at SPIL Glass Software,  Mr. Chamil Jeewantha, Co-founder & Director at VinuLabs Pvt Ltd, and Ms. Kamesha Samaranayake, Manager – Process Optimization at The Mistoria Group. Their valuable insights and expertise enriched the discussion, providing students with a deeper understanding of the intersection between business and technology.

🏆Best Information Systems-Related Research Award –  Ms. R.A. Nethmini Ranaweera for her research titled: ” Challenges In Cloud Adoption Among SMEs In the Western Province of Sri Lanka”

🏆Best Information Systems Development Project Award – Ms. K.A. Hansani Nirasha for her project titled: “Attention-Enhanced Support Vector Classification for Early Chronic Kidney Disease Prediction”.

BISSS 2026 was chaired by Mr. Kavinga Priyasad Elamulla while Ms. Dulari Perera and Ms. Upeksha Samarasinghe served as the co secretaries.
