
Bridging Academic Excellence with Industry Practice: Visit to Dialog Internet Data Center (IDC) & Dialog Television (DTV) Broadcast Centre and Satellite Earth Station
An industry visit to the Dialog Internet Data Center (IDC) and Dialog Television (DTV) Broadcast Centre and Satellite Earth Station – Malabe was organized under the ITC 3370 – IT Infrastructure subject for the 3rd year Business Information Systems undergraduates of the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura on 27th February, 2026.
Operated by Dialog Axiata PLC, the Internet Data Center (IDC) is recognized as the first Tier III Data Center in Sri Lanka, reflecting internationally benchmarked standards in reliability, redundancy, and operational continuity. A Tier III facility ensures concurrently maintainable infrastructure with high availability, minimal downtime, and robust fault-tolerance capabilities that are critical to sustaining enterprise systems, financial platforms, telecommunications networks, and national digital services.
For undergraduates specializing in Business Information Systems, visits of this nature are academically significant. They contextualize theoretical concepts delivered in the classroom within a real-world operational setting, enabling students to critically appreciate infrastructure scalability, service reliability, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance standards.

The visit was coordinated by Mr. Thanuja Wickramanayaka on behalf of the Department of Information Technology, ensuring alignment with the learning outcomes of the curriculum and the department’s broader industry engagement objectives. And students joined in for the visit together with Ms. Gangulali Gunasekara, Ms. Gagani Dissanayaka from the Department of IT, Mr. V.G.C. Thushara from the IT Resource Centre, FMSC and Mr. Isuru Wanasinghe from the Technical Officers Unit, FMSC. Gratitude is also conveyed to Professor Lasith Gunawardena, Head of the Department of Information Technology, for his leadership and continuous support in making this academic engagement a success.
This visit stands as a significant academic initiative, reinforcing the department’s commitment to integrating industry exposure with academic excellence in preparing future IT and Business Information Systems professionals.
