Contribution to International Technology Excellence at APICTA 2025

Prof. Lasith Gunawardena, Head of the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, served as the Head Judge for the “AI Technology of the Year” category at APICTA 2025, held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from December 5 to 8, 2025.

Often described as the “Oscars of the IT industry in the Asia Pacific”, APICTA recognizes excellence and innovation in transformative technologies across the region. In addition to his role as Head Judge, Prof. Gunawardena also contributed as a member of the judging panel for the Agriculture, Environment, and Sustainability category, collaborating with an international panel of experts.

APICTA 2025 brought together leading innovators and technologists from across the Asia-Pacific region. The event also featured strong representation from Sri Lanka, with over 75 nominees presented through BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (Sri Lanka Section), and the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS).

The Department of IT is proud of this significant international engagement, which reflects the Department’s contribution to global technology leadership and innovation.
