Leadership Transition at the Department of Information Technology: Welcoming Dr. C. Ranil Peiris as Head of Department.
The Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. C. Ranil Peiris as the Head of the Department of Information Technology, effective June 2026.
Dr. Peiris is a distinguished academic, researcher, and educator who has served the University with dedication and distinction over many years. As a founding member of the Department, he has made significant contributions to teaching, research, academic administration, curriculum development, and student mentorship. His expertise in Information Systems, Information Systems Development, Management Information Systems, and E-Learning has enriched both the Department and the wider academic community.
Dr. Peiris holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Stockholm University, Sweden, a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, and a Bachelor of Science in Management (Public) (Special) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Throughout his academic career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and developing sustainable technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Peiris has played an active leadership role within the University, contributing to numerous institutional initiatives related to information technology, staff development, and academic quality enhancement. His vision, collaborative approach, and commitment to excellence position him well to lead the Department into its next phase of growth and development.
The Department looks forward to working under Dr. Peiris’s leadership as it continues to strengthen its academic programs, expand research and innovation activities, enhance industry engagement, and create transformative learning opportunities for students.
As we welcome Dr. Peiris to this important role, we also take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation to Professor Lasith Gunawardena for his outstanding leadership and dedicated service as Head of the Department from June 2023 to June 2026.
