School Awareness Program at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura: A Successful Engagement with R/Dharmaloka Maha Vidyalaya
On October 21st, 2025, the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura had the pleasure of welcoming 100 A/L Commerce students from R/Dharmaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Rathnapura, accompanied by their teachers and parents. This distinguished group participated in a specially organized School Awareness Program at the FMSC, designed to introduce the students to the diverse academic opportunities available at University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
The event was meticulously curated by the Department of Information Technology (DIT), under the guidance of Professor Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and Professor Lasith Gunawardena, Head of the Department of Information Technology. With the goal of providing students with an insight into the faculty’s dynamic offerings, the program featured an engaging and informative session led by Dr. Dilan Rathnayaka from the Department of Marketing. Dr. Rathnayaka presented an in-depth introduction to the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, highlighting its academic programs, career pathways, and student-centric initiatives.
The event was further enriched by the enthusiastic participation of the S@IT Student Association, the student body of the DIT, representatives from other departments and the Student Union of FMSC, who played a crucial role in supporting and facilitating the event.
Program Highlights:
- Introduction to FMSC and Degree Programs: Dr. Dilan Rathnayaka shared insights into the various undergraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
- Interactive Sessions: The interaction between the visiting students and current undergraduates provided valuable perspectives on student life, university culture, and the academic journey at Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
- Campus Tour: The visiting students had the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art facilities at the university, including computer labs, lecture halls, and the vibrant campus environment.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Thanuja Wickramanayaka, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Information Technology, who oversaw the smooth execution of the program with the valuable support of the Dean and Head of the Department and the coordination with student associations.
