A Workshop on the IoT using Microbits Platform

A Workshop on the IoT using Microbits platform was conducted on 8th August 2018 as part of the Subject ITRC 3348 – Information and Communication Networks to introduce students to the latest technologies in IT. Third Year Students of the Department of Information Technology participated in this workshop. The resource persons who conducted the session were Volunteers from the MicroBit Sri Lanka User Group (Mr. Ravindu Ramesh Perera, Mr. Lakshitha Mahawithana, Mr. Kasun Gihan Rukmaldeniya, Ms. Nilushika Polkotuwa and Ms. H.G.C.K. Hulangamuwa). Mr. Prabhath Mannaperuma, Co-Founder/CEO of the MicroBits Sri Lanka user group coordinated the workshop.  Mr. Shiraz Azad, Associate Manager, SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies) joined via Video Conference to elaborate on opportunities to partner with SLASSCOM’s TechKids Initiative to take the Microbits platform to schools.

42 Students joined in the workshop organized by Dr. K.S. Lasith Gunawardena (Coordinator ITC 3348 Subject) with the assistance of staff members from the Department of Information Technology.

The students gained valuable knowledge and experience of programming using the MicroBits Platform, and a mini programming competition was held at the end of the workshop to evaluate the participants ability.
