Field Visit to Sri Lanka Telecom Data Center

The Third Year Students of the Department of Information Technology participated in a site visit to the National Data Center operated by Sri Lanka Telecom on the 23rd of July 2018. The center inaugurated at a cost of Rs. 3 Billion in January 2018 is located in Pitipana, Homagama. It is one of only two tier III datacenters in Sri Lanka, and the Largest.

42 Students joined in the visit which was organized by Dr. K.S. Lasith Gunawardena (Coordinator ITC 3348 Subject) with the assistance of Mr. Chandika Witharana and Ms. Kaveesha Silva from the Department of Information Technology.

The visit was arranged by Ms Suwini Salgadu (Manager, Enterprise Sales, Sri Lanka Telecom), an Alumnus of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and was coordinated by Mr. Chalith Priyankara, Engineer In Charge – Sri Lanka Telecom National Datacenter. The students gained valuable knowledge by way of a presentation on the datacenter and it’s activities as well as the site tour which exposed them to the state of the art facility.
