7th Student Conference in Finance – 2024

With a proud history of over two decades, the Department of Finance is well recognized for its research and development endeavours. Since its inception, the department has been active in research, setting up an environment conducive to the exploration of high-quality, innovative research in the field of Finance. The main research event of the department for the undergraduates was established in 2017 as the Student Conference in Finance and the conference is annually organized thereafter.

Marking another milestone in the department’s commitment to scholarly advancement, the Seventh Student Conference in Finance was organised on 28th February 2024 at the University premises. This year, undergraduate research conferences of all the departments of the faculty were held aligned with the 20th International Conference on Business Management (ICBM) during the research week of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. ICBM 2024 was organised on the theme of “Resilience and Reinvention for Sustainable Development in the VUCA world”. The inauguration of the Undergraduate Research Conference of the Faculty was held at the Senate Board Room of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the keynote speech was delivered by Emeritus Professor Indralal De Silva of the Department of Demography, Faculty of Arts of the University of Colombo.

This year’s student conference of the department featured fourteen research studies by selected undergraduates, spanning topics such as corporate finance, financial markets, corporate governance, investment and portfolio management, business valuation, international finance, financial inclusion, financial technology, corporate social responsibility, financial literacy and behavioural finance. Abstracts of these studies were compiled and published as the conference proceedings.

The 7th SCF was deemed a resounding success, with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, undergraduates, paper presenters, and finance industry experts. Their engagement contributed to the event’s success, showcasing the groundbreaking research presented and fostering meaningful dialogue within the finance community.
