Finance Premier League 2025 – A Celebration of Team Spirit and Togetherness.

The Students’ Association of Finance of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully organized the much-anticipated Finance Premier League (FPL) 2025 on October 5th, 2025, at the University Upper Ground. The event created a vibrant atmosphere filled with excitement, teamwork, and friendly competition, bringing together the entire Finance family.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Neelangie Nanayakkara, Head of the Department of Finance, along with other lecturers, non-academic staff, students of the Applied Finance program, Alumni members, the 2nd-year, 3rd-year, and 4th-year students of the Department of Finance, including past Presidents and Board Members of the Students’ Association of Finance, as well as the current President, Executive Committee and Board Members. Their presence made the event a true gathering of generations united under the banner of finance.

The day began with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing unity and good fortune for the matches ahead. Teams representing the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year undergraduates of the Department, along with a combined team comprising Applied Finance students, lecturers, and non-academic staff, participated in a series of thrilling encounters that showcased both competitive spirit and camaraderie. The event also featured girls’ teams from the 2nd and 3rd years, adding extra energy and enthusiasm to the day’s line-up.

After a series of entertaining matches, the combined team of Applied Finance students, lecturers, and non-academic staff, led by Dr. Sampath Kongahawatte, emerged as the champions of FPL 2025. The 3rd-year boys’ team, captained by Rusiru Nissanka, secured the 1st Runner-Up position, while the 2nd-year girls’ team claimed victory among the women’s teams. Individual brilliance was also celebrated, with Dr. Sampath Kongahawatte being named the Best Bowler of the Day, Nadun from Applied Finance winning the Best Batsman award, and Mindula Abenayake from the 3rd year earning the Man of the Match title.

The event concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates, marking the end of a day filled with laughter, cheers, and shared memories. Finance Premier League 2025 once again stood out as a testament to the unity, enthusiasm, and enduring spirit of the Department of Finance, strengthening the bonds between students, lecturers, and alumni alike.
