Sadaham Waruna – Project Suwa Saviya

Sadaham Waruna is a project initiated by the Students’ Association of Finance (SAF) to commemorate the Full Moon Poya days of the year 2021. Under the first phase of the project, a public relations campaign, Dhamma Sermon and Pirith chanting was conducted to commemorate the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day. Under the second phase of this project, project Suwa Saviya 2021 was carried out to commemorate the Poson Full Moon Poya Day.  The main objective of carrying out project Suwa Saviya 2021 was to lend a helping hand to the cancer ward at the Rathnapura Teaching Hospital.

A Public Relations campaign was carried out initially by the SAF to create awareness and to collect funds for the project. Through the generous donations received from the academic staff members of the university, well-wishers and donors, the SAF were able to raise over Rs. 150,000 within the span of two weeks.

While adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Government, a few office bearers of SAF visited the hospital on the 10th of July 2021, and handed over a 13kg fully automatic washing machine, 2 blood pressure machines, 500 KN95 masks, medicine worth Rs. 60,000 and other necessities to the Director of the Rathnapura Teaching Hospital, Dr. Anoj Rodrigo. In addition, 100 food packs were distributed among the patients of the ward.
