Sadaham Waruna – Dhamma Sermon
The Vesak Full Moon
Poya day commemorates the birth, Enlightenment and Parinibbana of Lord Buddha.
It is also a time to reflect on the teachings of Lord Buddha and to use
the teachings to shape our life in a positive manner.
The Department of Finance of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura celebrated Vesak adhering to the new normal concept by organising “Sadaham Waruna – Dhamma Sermon” on the 28th of May 2021, virtually via the Zoom platform and Facebook live. The Dhamma Sermon was followed by the Chanting of Pirith. Venerable Amathadeepa Thero of Mahamewna Buddhist monastery glorified the religious program and educated us on the timely topic how to elevate lives spiritually in a world where humans chase worldly belongings and materialistic items.
The religious program was graced by the presence of Professor P D Nimal the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Dr. P A N S Anuradha , the Head of the Department of Finance, and other academic staff members of the department and the faculty. The 4th year, 3rd year and 2nd year students of the Department of Finance also attended the event . This initiative was mainly taken in order to educate the participants of the true meaning of Vesak, and to invoke blessings to them.The participants were also given the opportunity to clarify their uncertainties after the Dhamma sermon under the guidance of the Venerable Thero.
The program took place from 7.00pm to 8.30pm and concluded after the Chanting of Pirith and invoking blessings of the Triple Gem with the wish of protecting our country and the citizens of the world from the COVID-19 pandemic.
