Senior Professor Hareendra Dissabandara Appointed Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka


The Department of Finance at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is proud to announce that Senior Professor Hareendra Dissabandara has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka. Snr. Prof. Dissabandara brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously served as SEC Director General from 2012 to 2013, during which he initiated ten key projects to accelerate the development of Sri Lanka’s capital market.

In addition to his roles at the SEC, Prof. Dissabandara has held several significant positions, including:

  • Director of the Financial Services Academy and Capital Market Education and Training Division at the SEC from 2008 to 2012.
  • Deputy Secretary General of Financial Affairs at the National Economic Council of Sri Lanka from 2018 to 2019.
  • Vice Chancellor and CEO of Saegis Campus from 2019 to 2020.

Prof. Dissabandara’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Japan (MONBUSHO Scholarship), an M.Sc. in Management from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and a B.Sc. in Management (Special Degree) from the same university.

As a Senior Professor in Finance and Corporate Governance in our department, Prof. Dissabandara has been instrumental in shaping the minds of future financial professionals and contributing to the advancement of financial education in Sri Lanka. His appointment as SEC Chairman is not only a testament to his expertise and dedication but also a significant honor for our department and the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
