Strengthening Ties: CISI and Department of Finance Collaboration

A significant and fruitful discussion was held between the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and the Department of Finance (DoF) on 23rd July 2024 at the Old Board Room, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce. This collaborative meeting aimed to enhance and strengthen the existing relationship between the two institutions.

Representing CISI, Mr. Michael Fernandopulle, Principal Advisor, and Mr. Nandika Buddhipala, member of the National Advisory Council, graced the event with their presence. The Department of Finance was represented by Prof. Chandana Gunathilaka, Head of the Department, Snr. Prof. Dissabandara, Ms. Miyuki Peiris, and Mr. Ruwanga Wijesooriya.

The meeting commenced with an insightful introduction by Prof. Chandana Gunathilaka, who highlighted the key features and achievements of the Department of Finance. This set the tone for a detailed discussion where both parties articulated their expectations and envisioned a strategic approach for moving forward. One of the core topics of discussion was the current Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CISI and DoF. Both parties acknowledged the need to revisit and refine the MoU to enhance the effectiveness of their collaboration. Suggestions were made on how to leverage each other’s strengths better and to foster a more impactful partnership.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a mutual agreement to reconvene with more concrete and effective suggestions to improve collaboration further. This commitment to continuous improvement underscores the dedication of both DoF and CISI to provide superior opportunities and benefits to their stakeholders.
