20th Annual General Meeting: Students’ Association of Finance (SAF)
The 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Students’ Association of Finance (SAF) was held virtually on July 8, 2024, via Zoom. The AGM was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and Prof. Chandana Gunathilaka, Head of the Department of Finance. Additionally, esteemed academic staff and enthusiastic undergraduates from the department joined the event, contributing to its success.
The AGM commenced with a welcome address by the outgoing president, Mr. Yasiru Jayashantha, who reflected on his journey with SAF and expressed gratitude to lecturers, seniors, and juniors for their support. This was followed by Dr. Sampath Kongahawatte, Chief Senior Advisor of the outgoing board, who underscored the significance of SAF and its achievements over the past year.
Prof. Chandana Gunathilaka emphasized the importance of democracy within the association and commended the outgoing board for their notable achievements. Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama delivered the keynote speech, lauding SAF for its distinguished position among faculty associations and extending his congratulations to the newly appointed board members.
A significant highlight of the AGM was the launch of the 12th edition of the annual departmental magazine, “Financial Explorer”, where the Chief Editor elaborated on the key topics featured in the magazine and expressed gratitude to all contributors for their dedication and efforts.
The most pivotal moment of the AGM was the appointment of the new Super Executive Committee, Executive Committee and Supportive Committees for the 2024–2025 tenure. The newly elected president, Mr. Sandun Sanjeewa, addressed the gathering, expressing his gratitude for the confidence placed in him and outlining his proposed plans and initiatives for the forthcoming year, while the newly appointed secretary, Ms. Sanduni Sooriarachchi, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the support and contributions of all attendees.
In conclusion, the 20th AGM of the Students’ Association of Finance was a resounding success, despite the challenges of hosting it virtually. It was a moment of reflection on past achievements and a celebration of new beginnings. The dedication and enthusiasm of both outgoing and incoming members have set a promising tone for SAF’s future.
